Instructions for Life

Today is November 3, 2016.  115 years ago on this very day, the Chevrolet company was founded, in order to compete with the Ford Model T automobile, which was introduced a few years prior.

Imagine going back in time to 1911 and being given a Chevrolet or a Ford vehicle, but not being told what it was or how to use it.  If you looked at the wheels, you might come to the conclusion that it could roll.  And after getting over the initial fear of this strange looking contraption, you might get up the nerve to climb into the chassis and sit in the seats, grab ahold of the wheel and toot the horn, assuming it had a horn.  But beyond that, if no one told you how to start the engine and press on the accelerator, you’d never be able to get the car to move.  You’d never understand how much this new invention could make your life more productive, efficient, and enjoyable.  You’d never know the indented use Mr. Chevrolet or Mr. Ford had for the automobile.  How unfortunate that would be.

This is where the instruction manual is critical for us to learn and understand the capabilities of any new technology.  Of course virtually no one actually reads the instruction manual for a car anymore, but what about a new computer, or induction cooktop, or a drone?  If we have never been taught how to use something before, instructions are indispensable.

What about the human body?  Since the dawn of civilization, people have been using their bodies heedlessly without really knowing its purpose, i.e., its creator’s intended use.  Sure have free will to move about and have developed a superior brain that allows us to manipulate the body to do all kinds of things to make our lives comfortable.  But are we really using the body correctly, the way that God, our Creator, intended for us to do so?

Fortunately for us, at the preordained time in the year 1838, God descended into the realm of human beings and through Oyasama as the Shrine, God began revealing the purpose for which humankind was created.  Not only the “why” but also the “when”, “where”, and “how”.  Everything about the Origin and the development of our species was taught by Oyasama.

It is through our Foundress that we have come to know the will of God.  In essence, we have been given the Instructions for Life.  Now we know that we were created to live joyous lives in order to bring joy to God, our Parent.  Living joyously means helping one another, rather than selfishly seeking comfort and pleasure at the expense of others.  We have been taught that the body is a thing borrowed, and that only our minds belong to us.  Furthermore, the way we use our minds will manifest itself, not only in our bodies, but also in the world in which we live.

The mind which is depressed, angry, arrogant, or focuses only on the self results in illnesses in the body, and troubled circumstances.  But the mind that is spirited, appreciative, and seeks to bring happiness to others will bring about healthy, long lives filled with joy and the blessings of good relationships, and good timing in life.

The great part of these Instructions is that we can learn about our lives and make changes going forward, no matter what circumstance we presently find ourselves.   It doesn’t matter if we’re rich or poor, healthy or sick, educated or not, EVERYONE has the opportunity to live happy, meaningful lives if we simply follow the Instructions given by Oyasama.

Some people assume that wealthy people are happier, or that people with severe illnesses are more depressed, but this isn’t true.  At least it doesn’t have to be true.  If we study the Instructions for Life, and understand why we were put here on this earth; when we understand the deep Parental love that went into not only our creation but also the care and guidance that have allowed humankind to develop and mature and prosper over countless generations; when we recognize the miracles we are blessed with each day just to keep our bodies alive and functioning, the mind can become purified and we gain a new outlook on life and the way we should be using our precious bodies.

Please join us in learning about these Instructions, and help turn this world into the world of the Joyous Life!
